YOUNG CA TTLEMAN DIED THERE
A campaign to have a
monument re-established at a
historic spot in the Potholes
area near here is being
undertaken by one of Othello's
best-known historical boost-
ers.
During a recent visit here,
Laura Tice Lage, author of
"Sagebrush Homesteads", the
historical book about Othello,
urged that a memorial be
established at the site where a
young cowboy lost his life
during a cattle drive in the
1800's.
Mrs. Lage, who makes her
home in College Place, re-
ported that years ago a pile of
rocks had marked the spot.
That was apparently torn
down many years ago.
The site is located at the
bottom of the bluff on the west
side of Morgan lake near the

Mrs. Lang researched the
incident for her book and
reports that the young cow-
boy's name was Edwin
O'Roarke. The 16-year-old
youth was apparently a part of
either a Snipes or Jeffries
cattle drive through the area.
The cattle drives went

NARROW MISS FOR THIEVES - KRSC manager Don Lockwood points to the back of
a transmitter where thieves narrowly missed electrocuting themselves last weekend. An
air conditioner located in the wall behind Lockwood was taken from the building, and the
thieves had to move the transmitter to get the machine out of the building. Lockwood
reports that high voltage in the transmitter room could have taken the lives of the
burglars if they had touched the wrong spot on the unit.

Thieves, apparently trying
to beat the heat, made off with
an air conditioner here late
last week, but in the process
narrowly missed an even
warmer reception which could
have proven fatal to them.
Adams County Sheriffs
deputies reported that a
refrigerated air conditioner,
valued at $500 was taken from
a wall in the KRSC radio
transmitter building located
about a half mile west of
Othello on Cunningham road.
Officers reported the theft
occurred sometime between
last Thursday and Saturday
afternoon, with the burglars
apparently breaking the lock
on the door.
According to Don Lock-
wood, station manager, the
burglars were lucky to escape
with their lives. He explained
that in the process of taking
the air conditioner, they
moved a transmitter. He
explained that by touching the
unit in the wrong place they
could have been electrocuted.
The unit operates on more
than 4,000 volts.
Mother, Child Are Injured
An eight-month-old Othello
girl received a possible
concussion Tuesday afternoon
when the car in which she was
riding left Highway 24 and
rolled into a ditch, according to
the State Patrol.
