THE OTHELLO OUTLOOK
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 1974
Coach Glenn Waltz' Othello at the end. The Eagles struck
Huskies, who found a "three- for two touchdowns, in the
quarter" effort just good fourth quarter and were
enough to beat the Connell trying to get their third on the
Eagles last Friday, will be board when Brian Stickel

Friday," Weitz said. "The kids
are real excited and we have
great spirit."
Waltz warned, however,
that the Vikings have lots of
talented personnel and are
probably a better team than
the one which stunned the
Huskies 42-14 in the two
team's second game last
season at Selah.
Not One-Sided
The Othello coach is quick to
point out that last year's score
was no true indication of the
strength of the two teams. The
Huskies stayed right with
Selah through most of the"~
game, despite some costly
mental errors early, and then
let the Vikings have three late
fourth quarter touchdowns
with the Othello l~eserves in
action.
"We're looking for a big
improvement over last year
and think we can get the
victory," Weitz reported.
Huskie scouting reports
from Selah's opening 6-0 loss
to Sunnyside last Saturday,
show the Vikings actually
dominated the game and
missed on several scoring op-
portunities after getting the
ball inside the 10-yard line.
Sunnyside's offense is built
around a big, tough 205-pound
fullback; and a speedy half-
back named Miller, who scored
three times against the
Huskies last season. The
Viking quarterback also had
112 yards rushing in the
Sunnyside game. In addition,
Selah features lots of size in
their offensive line and have a
quick defensive squad.
Lineup Listed
Waltz said the Huskies
should be physically ready for
the game. He will be counting
on fullback Mitch Buck, who
was named the Tri-City area
player of the week for his
Connell effort; quarterback
Kenny Pecka and halfbacks
Gary Paterson and Richard
Bisnett to carry the offensive
load.
The only "doubtful" Huskie
starters are senior John Capps
who suffered a sprained ankle
in the first quarter against
Cannel], and senior tackle
Roland Cerrillo with a muscle
pull. Both will probably be
sitting out the Selah game.
Dan Brown will be back at
center, with sophomore Den-
nis Deloach expected to join AI
Dellinger at guards. Roger
Nield and Rob Johnson, who
missed last week's opened due
to an early season illness, will
probably be at tackles. Roger
Beus and Mark Mohs are
expected to go at the end
spots.
Weitz said few changes are
planned on defense with junior
Brian Stickel expected to go at
safety in place of his brother
Kevin, who suffered a knee
injury against Connell. Stand-
outs on defense last Friday
were Buck with eight tackles
and eight assists from his
middle linebacker spot, and
Gary Peterson with five
tackles and four assists at
corner.
In reviewing the Connell
game, Waltz said he was still
pleased with the win, despite
the fact they had to scramble
Connell Starts Fast
The Eagles actually had the
upper hand in the opening
minutes of the game, but the
Huskies soon took over the
momentum on the passing of
Pecka and the rushing of Buck,
who rolled up 104 yards in 17
carries in the game.
With speedy Thane David-
son picking up big chunks of
yardage, Connell drove to the
Othello 10 the first time it got
the ball, only to be stopped by
a fumble.
The Huskies went all the
way on their second posses-
sion. Taking over on their own
28 after an Eagle punt, the
Huskie offense moved into
gear. Buck broke off a pair of
big gainers to mid-field and
Pecka then Connected with
Paterson, who made a pair of
great moves and got all the
way to the Eagle 21. A
Pecka-Beus pass gave the
Huskies a first down on the
six, Peterson smashed up the
middle to the one, and Buck
then broke through a big hole
for the score with 11:28 left in
the first quarter.• Bisnett's
kick made it 7-0.
Offense Clicks
ARer being stopped once
more by Connell, the Huskies
made their second scoring
drive a 66-yard march. A
42-yard pass from Pecka to
Beus moved the Huskies close
with Pecka then connecting
with Paterson from the 10 for
the score off the new
"sprint-out" pass which work-
ed well for the Huskies all
night. Bisnett's kick went wide
and the Huskies held a 13-0
lead at halftime.
Othello kept rolling in the
third quarter as Peeka mixed
his running and passing game
effectively in a 62-yard drive.
A pass to Mohs at the 12 set up
the score, with sophomore
John Bliss getting the touch-
down on a dive from the
Conneil two.
Bisnett's kick made it 20-0
with only 2:58 left in third
quarter and the Huskies
appeared to be on their way to
a laugher.
Eagles Come to Life
The Eagles had other ideas,
however, Quarterback Bart
Mackay started passing effec-
tively and with Davidson
ripping off big gainers, the
Eagles came right back to
score at 10:29 in the fourth
period.
The Huskies still had their
poise, but Pecka and Buck
went out on injuries, and they
found the~ suddenly couldn't
move the ball. Despite a
fumble recovery by Dellinger
at the Connell 26, the Eagles
promptly got the ball back on
the Huskie 39 after a high
center on an Othello punt
attempt.
It took Mackay just five
plays to pass the Eagles into
the endzone, connecting with
Curt Didier for the score.
• Connell came right back with
the same play for the two point
conversion, and the Huskies

This Friday At Huskie Field
Back in his third year as a Huskie varsity
member, this versatile senior was out-
standing playing in a new position last
Friday against Connell. Paterson broke into
the starting lineup as a sophomore at quar-
terback, and then was the signal-caller most
of last season for the squad. He has moved to
halfback this season where he is putting his
rushing and receiving talents to good use.
Peterson is also a two-way starter for the
Huskies, playing cornerback on defense.
This senior had an outstanding opening
game for the Huskies last weekend on both
defense and offense. He rushed for over 100
yards at his fullback spot and led the Huskies
on defense from his middle linebacker
position. Buck was a starter at fullback last
season as a junior and also played outside
linebacker and corner on defense. The
rugged senior is in his third year on the
varsity.
