helping make the West
District Adams County Fair a
success during the past
several years, will be one of
the busiest persons in sight
during the event this week-
end.
Mrs. Rickman holds the
office of director on the local
fair board, but refers to herself
as a "flunkie" when it comes to
duties in keeping the event
running.
'1 felt I could be more effec-
tive by fluctuating between
departments and duties, and
just doing what needs to be
done to help keep the fair
going," Mrs. Rickman reports.
In addition to her official
director position and many
hours of work prior to and
during the fair, Mrs. Rickman
has aslo also helped in other
ways. She has built two
complete dollhouses and do-
nated them to the fair board
for fund-raising efforts. Those
projects alone took many
hours.
Mrs. Rickman's interest in
the fair evolved from her
interest in 4-H and its activi-
ties. She has been involved in
the 4-H program for 11 years

Mrs. Rickman is also a past

It took four weeks, but the
"Who's Who" jackpot was
finally won here Monday. Rod
Pegram became the first big
winner in the contest as he
walked off with $90 in cash. •
Pegram's name was the first
drawn from the entry box at
Bob's Lockers on Monday and
he had the correct number of
clues with 19.
That means that the jackpot
will be "starting over" this
week. A prize of $10 will be
awarded to the winner, with
an additional $20 offered if
that person has the correct
number of clues.
Pegram, a local high school
graduate who has been
working at the Bureau of
Reclamation for several years,
reports that his big win
couldn't have come at a better
time.
He plans to enroll at
Columbia Basin College in
Pasco in pre-engineering
studies this fall, and reports
the prize money will be put to
good use in helping supple-
ment the budget he and his
wife, have set up.
A total of 277 entries were
received in this week's con-
test, with well over half of the
entry blanks listing the
correct number of clues.
