Send a gift from your
kitchen, if you're looking for a
mailable gift and don't know
the right size or color for
clothing.
But, cautions Cathleen S.
Stagg, Washington State
University's Grant-Adams
Area Home Extension agent,
remember to send foods that
travel well. "Don't waste your
time sending foods that will
crumble or spoil easily."
Many baked products
travel well, However, for a
cookie gift, remember drop
and bar cookies make better
travelers than the thin, crisp
type. To pack drop cookies,
put two together, back to
back, and wrap with foil or
plastic before you put them in
a box.
Cut and wrap bar cookies
individually. Or better yet,
don't even cut the cookies into
bars. Instead, leave them in
one big piece, just the size to
fit the box you're packing in.
Wrap the whole thing in
plastic; put cardboard on the
top and bottom to make the
package firmer; and wrap for
mailing. Your giant-sized
cookie is ready to travel
Breads and cakes that are
moist and have lots of fruit
travel well, too. Bake these in
a foil pan. Take the baked
bread or cake out of the pan to
cool and then slip it back in
the pan for wrapping. Cushion
the pan and contents with
shredded paper, marshmal-
lows or popped popcorn when
you pack for shipping.
With careful choice of
foods--plus some precision

about size and color. Your
own home-baked gifts will fit
most anyone's appetite this
Christmas.

A new bulletin, "The Knit
Scene" has just been released
by Washington State Univer-
sity. It contains information
that every home seamstress
needs to have on selection,
care and construction of knib
garments.
Ino ga ps, no overla ps.
And now it includes fire insurance, too. If you have
several different policies, you may be paying twice for the
same protection--while gaps in coverage leave vital areas
unprotected. The Farm and Ranch Sentinel Package can
be tailored to cover all of your individual needs: home,
equipment, animals and crops--at package savings. It
pays to see your Farmers Insurance Group Agent.

'Beef' Gift
Certificates
Are Offered
"Ideal Christmas gifts of
certificates for beef' are being
offered by the Grant County
Cowbelles, local members
reported this week.
Group spokesmen explain-
ed that the special certifi-
cates, which are available in
any denomination from $5 on
up may be purchased from
members of the group.
Eileen Smith, Othello,
treasurer of the group, which
also takes in the panhandle of
Adams county, explained that
the Cowbelles receive no
return from the certificates,
but are selling them only to
promote beef. The certificates
are redeemable in all local
stores, she said.
Interested persons should
contact Mrs. Smith at
488-2596. ...
The area Cowbelles group
also has programs available
for home economic and other
women's groups. The pro-
gram offers beef cooking tips
and demonstrations on howto
get the most for your food
dollar when purchasing meat.
The organization is open to
interested women and meets
the first Wednesday of every
even numbered month. In-
formation is available .from
Mrs. Smith.
